Joy Carter, DVM

Dr. Joy Carter grew up in Swainsboro, a charming small town in southeast Georgia. Back in 2004, Dr. Carter’s love of animals and passion for the medical field inspired her to become a Veterinary Technician. She attended Oklahoma State University for her clinical year, and in 2009 earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Carter’s areas of professional interest include emergency medicine and surgery, and she continues to pursue advanced training in these areas.
Currently living in Ft. Lauderdale, Dr. Carter shares a home with her two rescue cats, QT and Marlee, Munson the English Bulldog, and Gidget the Pomeranian, who loves dancing for treats. She is active with CrossFit, loves to travel and was once featured in a fitness documentary on Netflix.
Dr. Carter is the overnight associate Veterinarian at Calusa Veterinary Center. She says the best part of working in the veterinary field is the unconditional love and joy animals give us.
