Rehabilitation
re-ha-bil-i-ta-tion - Restoration to good health or useful life, as through therapy and education.
A new veterinary specialty known as canine rehabilitation is blossoming throughout the country and transforming the way dogs are recovering from surgery and injury.
Earlier approaches that kept pets inactive through cage confinement or rested for weeks with minimal activity are now being replaced by more beneficial and promising approaches adapted from the "gold standard" of human physical therapy.
Veterinarians and pet owners alike now expect far more than just a successful surgical outcome…they're seeking maximum medical recovery with an early return to normal function. At CVC, our patients are able to accomplish this through the commitment and skill of our veterinary rehab team.
We are proud to offer many of the same modalities commonly used in the human sector such as deep penetrating low level laser, therapeutic ultrasound, electro-muscle stimulation, land treadmill exercises along with a plethora of stretching, range of motion, gait analysis and proprioceptive techniques determined by the situation and expertise of the rehab team and carried out on our special rubber floored rehab center.
Our Aquatic center provides hydrotherapy in our heated outdoor exercise pool and our underwater treadmill provides low impact exercise in a reduced gravity environment.
In every case the rehab team will rely on the referring veterinarian's diagnosis to develop a therapy plan that's just right for the patient's individual problem. The equipment and therapies selected will:
- Increase circulation which accelerates healing
- Increase muscle mass and strength which improves balance, coordination and performance
- Improve flexibility and mobility which increases functionality
- Minimize pain which restores and improves our patient's quality of life
