Dr. Paul D'Ortona is an emergency veterinarian with a special interest in treating surgical emergencies in dogs and cats. Originally from New Jersey, Dr. D'Ortona completed his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a minor in Business Administration at Rowan University, followed by a Master of Science in Biology from Saint Joseph's University, where he conducted his thesis research on guppy shoaling behavior. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2022.

Following veterinary school, Dr. D'Ortona completed a rigorous rotating internship at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, where he gained advanced training in emergency and critical care, internal medicine, and surgery, as well as contributed to surgical training of junior and senior veterinary students. He then pursued two consecutive specialty internships in small animal surgery at CVETS in South Carolina and ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospital in Florida. These programs allowed him to refine his surgical skills, assist in advanced procedures (including total hip replacements and mitral valve repairs), and gain experience in providing exceptional post-operative patient care.

Dr. D'Ortona is RECOVER CPR certified in Basic and Advanced Life Support and is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Florida Veterinary Medical Association (FVMA), and Palm Beach Veterinary Society (PBVS).

At Calusa Veterinary Center, Dr. D'Ortona brings his diverse background, surgical acumen, and commitment to high-quality emergency care to every patient he treats. Outside of work, he maintains a strong interest in reptile and amphibian biology, enjoys staying active through strength training and outdoor activities, and appreciates the sunshine and vibrant lifestyle that Florida has to offer.
