August 2011 Pet of the Month – “PIPER” Grodensky

August 2011 Pet of the Month – “PIPER” Grodensky
Date: August 1, 2011Calusa Veterinary Center would like to introduce our August “Pet of the Month”.
She is “PIPER” Grodensky.
Piper is an adorable, brave eight year old, female Shetland sheepdog. She came to Calusa in June after being attacked by another dog. She suffered a large wound on her side that would not heal properly. She had surgery to help close the open wound. Unfortunately, her body rejected sutures and she was resistant to several antibiotics. Piper endured daily painful bandage changes, but yet she never failed to give lots of kisses to the nurses and her tail was always wagging.
Piper is undergoing a series of hyperbaric oxygen treatments under Dr. Turkell’s care to help heal her wounds. This therapy has been used to treat humans, but it is new to pets. Calusa is proud to be offering this innovative treatment which accelerates the recovery rate by speeding up the healing of tissues, ligaments and bones and decreases infection.
Congratulations to Piper for being our Pet of the Month!
