Hyperbaric Center

Just like in human medicine, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) in veterinary medicine is designed to effectively deliver oxygen to tissues in the body in order to treat a wide range of ailments.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

How does HBOT work?

The hyperbaric chamber delivers to your pet 100% pure oxygen, which is inhaled at a pressure much greater than that of normal breathing. Under hyperbaric pressure, oxygen is able to reach damaged tissue 3 to 4 times farther than normally transferred by red blood cells. This is especially important in swollen and inflamed tissues where small blood vessels have been spread apart and oxygen from the red blood cells is unable to diffuse far enough to supply the needs of damaged cells. The more oxygen that is delivered to tissues, the faster healing is achieved. HBOT is useful in a variety of clinical situations and is most often given in combination with other modes of therapy.

HBOT can:

  • Reduce swelling and inflammation
  • Ease pressure and edema caused by head or spinal cord injuries
  • Stimulate new blood vessel formation in healing tissues
  • Improve control of infection
  • Promote wound healing

HBOT is used to treat:

  • Wounds/burns
  • Head/spinal cord trauma
  • Post-surgical swelling
  • Crushing injuries
  • Sepsis
  • Pancreatitis
  • Necrosis
  • Stroke
  • Snake/spider bites
  • Bone infection
  • Smoke inhalation
  • Post cardio-pulmonary resuscitation
  • Sinusitis and much more
