Hospital Policies
Appointment Policy
For regular visits during normal business hours, we strongly advise calling ahead for an appointment as the practice can get very busy during the day. While we are usually able to accommodate walk-in visits, these will incur an additional walk-in fee.
Effective immediately, Calusa has non-emergency general practice appointments available from 9-5 on Sundays.
Alternatively, our ER is open 24/7/365 to see all urgent veterinary emergencies.
After-Hours Emergency Room
Calusa’s veterinary emergency room is open 24/7/365 for the convenience of all pet owners, even those who are not Calusa general practice clients. If you believe your pet may be suffering a medical emergency, we recommend you proceed immediately to our facility for evaluation. During particularly busy evenings, our clinical team may be unable to speak with you over the phone prior to your arrival to assess the severity of the situation. Consequently, we advise the “come first, ask questions later” approach as the most conservative tact.
If you are not a regular Calusa Veterinary Center client, all records relating to your emergency visit will be shared with your regular veterinarian in the morning. Together with your pet’s vet we will devise the best course of action for recovery.
Payment Policy
Our policy is to require payment at time services are rendered. We accept cash, personal check, debit cards, major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, American Express) and Scratchpay. Additionally, we accept CareCredit, a credit card specifically designed to cover healthcare expenses. If you would like to learn more about CareCredit, acceptable uses for it, and how the application process works, click here.
Weather Emergency/Hurricane Protocols
In the event of a weather emergency, our facility is designed to withstand severe weather, including Category 3 hurricanes. The building has an on-site power generator to ensure continuous operation of our treatment equipment for our hospitalized patients. Additionally, unlike other boarding facilities, we are able to safely house your pets in all but the most sever flooding conditions. If you have any further questions regarding our severe weather protocols, please call us at the hospital for more information.
Pharmacy/Raw Food Store Purchases
Due to regulations in the State of Florida, we are unable to accept any returns of medication to our on-site pharmacy. Additionally, for purchases made from our raw food store, limited returns are possible. Please contact the hospital for more information.
