The Importance of Wellness Exams
Date: February 29, 2012If you’re like most people, you avoid the doctor until you’ve come down with an illness and have no other choice but to make an appointment; so it can’t be all that surprising that most pet owners will avoid the veterinarian until in absolute need. The approach to Western medicine in both humans and pets seems to be more reactive rather than proactive. This thought process in the mind of the patient or owner of the patient in this case can prove to save a lot of time. However, this time could prove to create more hassle down the line. Wellness Exams which are recommended twice yearly, especially for animals getting up in their years, can help prevent a wide array of possible severe or even minor illnesses in your pet. Many diseases seem to come on quickly and can progress rapidly. There are almost always subtle changes that take place long before there is a major sign of a full-blown illness. It’s these changes that can be identified during a routine wellness exam, with the idea of preventing the illness before it has the time to fully develop, not only to stop the illness but also and more importantly saving your pet from the pain that would have taken place if it hadn’t been caught and treated in time.
