Dr. Nadrea Sookhoo has been working as a veterinarian for the past 19 years. She is originally from Toronto, Canada. After completing her honors bachelor’s degree at the University of Toronto, she started veterinary school at the University of the West Indies, graduating with honors in 2006. She received a scholarship in 2006 to attend a course in wildlife rehabilitation and utilization in South Africa affiliated with The University of Pretoria.
Initially, Dr. Sookhoo worked for a few years as a general practitioner in New York and Florida. She then moved to California to complete a rotating small animal medicine/surgery and emergency internship. Dr. Sookhoo then spent over 3 years in the field of ophthalmology completing externships and internships. She completed one of her ophthalmology internships at Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners in Michigan in 2015. From 2015, Dr. Sookhoo worked in Toledo, Ohio in two progressive veterinary practices before she moved to Florida.
Within the last 8 years, Dr. Sookhoo has developed a love for diagnostic imaging. She has taken several courses in abdominal ultrasound and echocardiology. She currently performs diagnostic abdominal ultrasounds at Calusa Veterinary Center. She has also increased her wealth of knowledge by attending Chi Veterinary University to complete her Veterinary Chinese Acupuncture certification. Dr. Sookhoo has been a Fear-Free Certified Veterinarian for the past 8 years.
Dr. Sookhoo is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. She is a co-author for a review article published in Compendium Veterinary Journal about Sago Palm Toxicity in Dogs. She is an avid learner and is completing continuing education courses online and at conferences.
Dr. Sookhoo joined the Calusa Veterinary family in 2018. She enjoys working at such a progressive practice as Calusa Veterinary Center and is dedicated at providing the best medical care and compassion to her Sunshine State patients! In her spare time, Dr. Sookhoo loves to dance, sing, visit local farmers’ markets, and attend local festivals in South Florida.
